3rd Signal/Broadwaves Meetup this year!

So, the other weekend, we had a 3rd Signal/Broadwaves meetup when Kevin and Jutta came to London to meet up with me (Nick) and Jill. Now Andy had been going to join us until work intervened, but that didn’t stop him meeting up with former Signal crew James and Carolyn Parkinson in Michigan!

The Euston meet unsurprisngly ended up in the pub (The Exmouth Arms – excellent beer and terrific burgers). The meet earlier with Les and Tabitha, Andy, Jill and my wife Joy (several varied Signal voice artist gigs) had been somewhat more up market (*very* posh nosh at Dinner by Heston at the Mandarin Park Hotel) but was just as much fun.

3 met ups is almost as many months? Just wow and I’m so glad to get to work and hang out with such a diverse and likeable bunch of folks.

Here’s the proof:

Not bad for a bunch of Browncoats ūüôā

Orange is an anime, a manga, and a live action movie, about a 16-year old girl, Naho, who begins to receive letters from her 26-year old future self. The letters instruct her to change the future, to prevent the death of someone important to her, a boy name Kukiru.

But it’s not as easy as it sounds. Future-Naho only knows what went wrong, not how to do it right, and the more present-Naho changes things, the less useful the letters become. She’s going to have to rely on her wits, and her friends, and her love, and most importantly, she’s going to have to need courage.

In this episode of Broadwaves, we dive deeper, and discuss what our crew thought of this show. There will be spoilers! Join in the discussion.

What’s with all the recent episode posts? (long version)

Well now, you may have noticed that we’ve recently listed a bunch of Broadwaves episodes in addition to the current Orange (A) show.

I’d love to say that there’s a funny story attached to the reasons for this, but that would be exaggerating somewhat ūüôā

Basically, we forgot ūüôā

Oh we published the shows of course and if you’ve subscribed or look at the RSS feed, you’ll have already had or can see all the episodes we have done in the correct order. The full listing is here:

http://broadwaves.org/rss/episodes/all.html

and looks like this:

Broadwaves

List of Episodes

Broadwaves is a podcast dedicated to finding great stuff to watch on TV and elsewhere – from the people who brought you ‚ÄúThe Signal‚ÄĚ.

We aim to produce one 60-minute episode each month, in which we talk about, recommend, and analyse shows that you might not otherwise have heard of, are fun, and are available to watch (and our definition of ‚Äúshow‚ÄĚ is quite broad – we include TV, movies, radio, books, etc.)

Sense8 was our first show and we talk a bit more about this in the current show in light of recent cool events.
Anyhoo… many apologies for the slightly confusing order of things lately, but while we’re OK at making the shows, organising how we tell you about them clearly still needs a bit of work. We will try to get better at this. (Better had, as the list of shows we want to do is getting ever longer!! ūüôā
Thanks for listening!

This is Wonderland¬†is a Canadian TV series which aired on CBC. It is a legal drama, sort of. It’s a show about Alice De Raey, a young criminal lawyer fresh out of law school, who is thrown in at the deep end, in the midst of a totally chaotic justice system. It is about the characters within that system, lawyers, judges and public alike, who range from the desperate to the bizarre.

This show is about the warmth, humanity and diversity of the characters. It is about the tenaciousness of the human spirit, about compassion and kindness, and sometimes just plain idiocy. Sometimes, it’s so painful it’s funny.

New Serenity Comics ‘n stuff

Quote from Joss at SDCC via iO9:

Joss Whedon‚Äôs Twist, a six-issue series that he‚Äôs putting out next year from Dark Horse Comics. It ‚Äúbasically deals with the most important moral question facing us, which is, why isn‚Äôt there a Victorian Female Batman?‚ÄĚ And in response to a fan question about Dark Willow, Whedon said Twist will have a certain amount in common with Dark Willow.

Besides that, Dark Horse is releasing a sequel series to the Firefly comic A Leaf on the Wind, and the current runs of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and Faith are wrapping up next year. Beyond that, Whedon is working on ‚Äústuff I can‚Äôt talk about.‚ÄĚ

So, more post – Serenity content.

This is good. As for the rest…well, Joss does tend to come up with stuff we like, Fray being a good case in point, so double plus good ūüôā
